What is a Springbok? Springbok are a medium sized species of antelope that is found across most of South Africa. We only hunt Springbok on our hunting area in Mpumalanga Province.

Springbok are not very large animals, with full grown adults standing about 30-36″ tall at the shoulder and weighing around 75-100 pounds. They have a tan colored coat on their backs with a white tail and belly and a brown stripe running along their flanks.

They are often found in arid and semi-arid regions of South Africa. Springbok are well adapted to living in areas with little water. Though they will drink when water is available, they can fulfill their water needs from their food. They are both browsing and grazing animals and will adjust their diet seasonally as the food sources change. Springbok are often found in herds numbering up to several hundred animals.

What is the best rifle caliber for Springbok hunting? Springbok are not particularly large or tough animals, so cartridges such as the .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester, and .30-06 Springfield are all great choices for trophy Springbok hunting in South Africa.

What is the best recommended Springbok shot placement? Shot placement when Springbok hunting is pretty simple: aim at the center of the shoulder approximately 1/3 the way up the body. No Springbok will run very far after a good shot.

What methods do you use when Springbok hunting? All of our Springbok hunting trips are conducted via spot and stalk. Since they often inhabit open areas, this usually involves glassing the fields that they like to inhabit during the early morning or evening in hopes of spotting a nice male. Once spotted, we will try to get within shooting range without being spotted.

What is the best time of year for Springbok hunting in South Africa? Though Springbok are another species that may be successfully hunted virtually all year round, the months of May through August are the usually our best months for Springbok hunting in South Africa.

What is your average trophy size of Springbok taken in South Africa when hunting with you?  When Springbok hunting, the typical trophy taken on hunts with us measures between 12″ and 15″. Our biggest Springbok ever measured just over 15″, which is an excellent trophy.
